Health and wellness; the overlap in core values between a farmers’ market and a hospital should be evident to most. After all, the link between food and medicine has been known since the days of Hippocrates. Bringing the freshest produce and other local food products to the faculty, staff, patients, and students at the UMC College of Medicine seemed like it would be a great benefit to everyone. With over 20 vendors, there is sure to be something for everyone. The market is open to the public, so come by and see what the buzz is about!
The site of the market plaza is located at the south end of the main hospital (See attached map for visual) – When entering UMC from Campbell, there is a large breezeway/driveway that leads up to the hospital entrance, usually used for surgery patient drop-offs. Drive all the way up and around the horseshoe like breezeway (which will place you on the left/south side of it), past the entrance to the hospital, and along the side of that driveway will be an area to unload (there will be a few cones and a staff member here), which is very close to the Plaza. After unloading, you can park in the nearby garage, but keep your parking ticket on you (I will have them validated during market hours). If you choose, and it may be easier, just park directly in the garage to begin with, as you can unload from there and cart your setup over to the patio. After parking, return to the area where you unloaded, and move your setup into the nearby plaza to your assigned space (spaces will be assigned at the time of the market). There is a limited amount of space for unloading multiple vendors at one time if you use the breezeway, so plan your arrival time accordingly, so that you are not rushed to unload.
Note: Bring your friends and family, but please leave your dogs at home.
